Robert Moses State Park covers the western end of Fire Island, across the inlet from Captree. Surf fishing is popular along its ocean beaches.
Democrat Point, at the tip, faces both the ocean and the inlet and is reached with a four-wheel-drive permit. Anglers also walk over from Field 3 to fish and crab off the long piers in front of the park office.
